CK/Conductive Keratoplasty in New Jersey

The use of radio frequency (RF) energy represents one of the most exciting innovations in vision correction surgery today. This method offers a clear alternative to both laser and standard surgical vision correction techniques for hyperopia (farsightedness) and presbyopia (decrease in focusing with age).

CK/Conductive Keratoplasty

Dr. Kenneth S. Miller proudly offers the revolutionary Conductive Keratoplasty procedure, also known as CK, at our New Jersey facility. CK is an advanced, new vision correction surgery that uses radio frequency energy to reshape the cornea in patients with hyperopia and presbyopia. Conductive Keratoplasty uses a small pen-shaped device to deliver pulses of RF energy along the circular periphery of the cornea. This energy causes the corneal tissue to heat and shrink in a highly controlled manner, steepening the curvature of the cornea and correcting the eye's focal point on the retina.

CK/Conductive Keratoplasty ® technology, developed by Refractec, first received FDA approval on April 16, 2002 for treatment of hyperopia (farsightedness) in patients over age 40. Farsightedness, caused by a flattened cornea or a shorter than normal eye, is the most common vision disorder in the United States, according to Refractec, but until recently, could only be treated with surgical and laser vision correction techniques that were initially approved for nearsighted patients. Now, people over 40 with mild degrees of farsightedness have a safe and effective new option.

Near Vision CK/Conductive Keratoplasty, for the treatment of presbyopia, gained FDA approval in March 2004. Many presbyopic patients, individuals generally over the age of 50 who have lost most of their eyes' natural ability to focus at close range, would like to have freedom from glasses or contacts. CK offers a quick and simple solution for these patients. This minimally invasive procedure can be performed in as little as three minutes. Five years of clinical trials have found the method to be as safe, predictable and effective as current laser vision correction techniques. So come into today to see if CK or conductive keratoplasty in New Jersey is right for you.
