PRK in New Jersey

PRK, which stands for Photo Refractive Keratectomy, was developed before LASIK and is similar to it with one important difference. During PRK, the surgeon does not create a flap in the outer cornea. Instead, the excimer laser (VISX Star S4) is applied directly to the surface of the cornea, completely removing both the outer layer (the epithelium) and the necessary amount of underlying tissue. Although this may result in slightly more postoperative discomfort and prolonged healing time, PRK is still a highly effective laser vision correction treatment and may be indicated for patients with certain corneal degenerations or thin corneas.

This is a small, cylindrical, silicone insert, which is easily placed into the opening of the tear duct. These plugs help your eyes retain moisture and decrease discomfort.
