Corneal disease refers to any ailment that affects the cornea, the transparent, outermost covering of the eye. The cornea allows light to enter the eye and aids in its focusing.

Eye injuries, dry eye, corneal dystrophies and degenerations, corneal infections that produce keratitis (inflammation) and scarring are common corneal diseases.
