Optometrists, formerly known as opticians, are trained to examine the eyes in order to detect vision impairments, signs of injury, ocular diseases or abnormalities, and general health issues such as high blood pressure or diabetes. When necessary, they conduct a health assessment, provide clinical advice, prescribe eyeglasses or contact lenses, and refer patients for further care.
